1. What have you learned and/or re-learned in the last 4 weeks of our sessions? (Specifically identify the concepts, principles, and skills in public speaking that you have learned and/or re-learned).
In the last four weeks of class, I have learned about different types of speeches.
I learned about informative, persuasive, and special occasion speeches. I have also learned
about how to select a topic for a speech. When selecting a topic, you should look at the things you are interested in, public issues that you are concerned about, or current events that are taking place in society. Speaking and listening etiquette was also discussed in our previous sessions.
Such roles in speaking etiquette would be to not speak past your allotted time, be prepared, and dress appropriately. Listening etiquette includes
arriving on time, not talking, providing feedback, and not eating. We also learned a couple of different ways to cite sources.
One way would be to cite during your speech, and another way would be to cite at the end.
2. Have your learning techniques, time management, and learning attitude been effective in this course? If yes, why do you say so? If not, why do you think so?
At this point, I feel that I have not had enough time to allow my learning techniques, time management, and learning attitude to be effective. One reason I
feel it has been ineffective is due to the fact that I am always early or on time. I have excellent time management skills, therefore I do my assignments and show up at the proper time. I also participate in class. When we work with groups, I do my portion of the work and share my incites with my team members. My learning techniques have been effective on the other hand. I have used my learning techniques to learn about different types of speeches, listening and speaking etiquette, and how to cite my sources.
3. Are your instructor’s teaching style and approach , as well design of learning lessons and learning activities effective and able to help you learn and/or relearn things in speech communication? WHY do you think or say so?
I feel my instructors teaching style and approach has been very effective thus far. She is very philosophical, and understands what you are trying to say when you are struggling to say it. She prepares interesting activities that allow us to communicate with others and get a more comfortable feel with speaking. I also enjoy the use of power point in class. It is understood that trying to listen to a teacher and read a power point at the same time does not help students learn. I on the other hand am a visual learner, and learn best when I see and I hear the things my instructor is teaching me.

1. What have you learned after you delivered, watched and evaluated other student speeches?
After I delivered, I learned not to make conclusions persuasive. When giving an informative speech, solely keep informative. I also learned not to fidget.
When you fidget your audience’s attention is focused on you fidgetting and not on your presentation. When you give a speech, you should speak loud, clear, and know your information.
2. Whose informative speech stands out the most? Why do you think so?
I feel that Ja Ashia’s informative speech stands out the most. She picked a topic that she was really interested in. She knew her information and delivered it with mastery.
3. Who amongst your classmates have shown strong leadership skills during our speech delivery sessions?
I feel that Scott Minto has demonstrated strong leadership skills. He has feedback for every presentation, and always offers advices to make speech deliveries better. He is never negative, and tries to make everyone feel like they did good even with some areas that need improvement.
4. Who amongst your classmates have shown great collaboration skills?
I feel that Kyle Picht has great collaboration skills. He participates in every lecture, and provides feedback with all speeches.
5. Whose evaluations from your classmates you’ve found most helpful for you and for everyone else? WHY?
I feel that Scott’s evaluations are most helpful. He gives feedback for every speaker, and is always positive. He is very helpful, and does not focus on just one area. He is an overall great evaluator.

1. Given all the guidance, lessons, and materials to use for your speech preparations in order for you to be successful in your speech deliveries, what made you divert from those tools and step by step guidance?
I feel I followed the guidance, lessons, and other materials well. I may not have used them right or in the right sense, but I feel I did my best to give my audience a good presentation. Although my performance was rather weak, it was not a horrible presentation. I stumbled a little bit, but pushed through it to make it as good as I could.
2. Which of the following efforts from your instructor [listed below] did you take advantage of? Please, check the ones that apply:
[X] Clear objectives in the course syllabus
[X] Learning activities geared towards helping you achieve the course objectives and prepare for great speech performances
[X] Use of campus available technology for us such as AngelCommunicate and PSU webmail for reminders and additional guidance
[X] Repetitive classroom lessons and tips to ensure that the principles of effective speech preparations, speech organization, citation of sources, and effective delivery are attained
[X] Reminders and guidance both in class and through Angel Communicate and webmail to ensure you do not forget to miss anything
3. Please, list down the course materials you did not like or you were disagreeable with? Go to Angel if you have not saved any of them yet. Click on Communicate and Check all materials and guide provided you. Do you have sources that support your disagreement against these materials?
I do not disagree with any course materials. Everything has gone smoothly and I have enjoyed the class. The materials are very helpful. I feel anyone can be a successful speaker if they follow such materials.
4. What do you think you could have done better to have made you more successful inyour speech delivery for your persuasive speech?
I feel I could have had a more successful delivery of my persuasive speech inmany ways. I know I am a goodspeaker, but I feel this was a weak presentation on my behalf. I could have mastered the information a little bit more. I could have also avoided fillers such as “um”.
5. What do you think you can do to prove that you can still improve in your speechperformances before the final session in thiscourse?
I feel by participating fully in class, I will be able to improve myperformances. If I participate and am engaged in the weekly lessons, and take note of their performances, I will be able to overcome my weakness and become a better public speaker.

EMILY’S PERFORMANCE
Performed learning activities or tasks, assignments, and speeches on time (as per our Scheduled Plan of Activities)
**** I rate myself with a four star rating for this key performance. I give myself four stars because I turned in all assignments, and presented all speeches on the dates I was instructed to. I was engaged in every lesson, and participated when the opportunity rose. On the other hand, there were some days when I did not fully participate in class. I listened to others when they participated, and gave advice to their fellow students. I could have been more engaged on those days.
Executed effective communication, collaboration and/or leadership skills
**** In this key performance, I rate myself with four stars. I gave myself this rating because I feel I was effective with my communication, and had great leadership skills, but I lack in collaboration skills. When working in groups, I listened to others input, and gave very little feedback. While keeping quiet, I feel I did a good job keeping members of my group on track, and focused on the task at hand. I feel four stars is a good rating because I did well in two areas, and lacked in one. I learned that if I give more feedback, people will be more willing to listen to you.
Rendered well-thought out speeches, reflections, and work output
***** I give myself five stars on this key performance. I feel I earned five stars because I put a lot of thought into all of my speeches, and spoke about things I am very interested in. My work output was great. I asked for help when I needed it, and asked for a review of my power points before I presented. I took what the evaluators said about my speeches, and worked hard to improve for the next speech. When an evaluator spoke about my speech, and listed the areas I did good in, and the areas that needed improvement, I saw that as an opportunity to better myself.
Fulfilled the ethical requirements of public speaking (AVOID: plagiarism, ethnocentrism, egocentrism, and commission of fallacies)
***** I feel I earned five stars in this area because I did not plagiarize. I was not full of myself when giving speeches, and I did not follow through with ethnocentrism. I feel I fulfilled the requirements of public speaking ethically.
Overcame speech anxiety or fear and other undesirable communication habits
**** I give myself four stars in this area because I did well in my speeches. I did not suffer from fear or anxiety because I've given many speeches before coming to college. The reason I give myself a four star rating is because I failed to remove fillers such as “uh”, “um”, etc. from my performance. I feel I had good body language, and eye contact with the audience. I spoke loud and clear for those in the back to hear, and understand me. I feel I knew my most of my information, some parts more than others. I should have practiced, and read over the material a little more than I did.
Reflected well on your learning process and learning accomplishments and be able to present valuable learning output or accomplishments (PORTFOLIO Presentation)
***** I give myself five stars in this area because I did well on the reflections I turned in to be graded. I found each reflection helpful because I could look back after a presentation, and see what I did good on, and the things that needed improvement.
Maintained positive attitude, practiced positive core values, and philosophy in life and show appreciation of the value of lessons learned in this course to one’s personal, academic and professional goals.
***** I rate myself with five stars in this area because I maintain positive attitude through out the semester. I feel I stayed positive when things started to get tough. When I had to make power points, and make a speech, I had some trouble organizing, and getting on track. On the bright side I feel I stayed calm, and kept a cool head. When it comes to other classes, I learned that if I stay calm I do better, and am able to focus more on the importan/positive aspects instead of taking a negative approach.
Applied the principles and techniques of effective speech preparation and speech delivery as well as apply speech evaluation skills (being able to assess the effectiveness of one’s own speech delivery or performance and that of others)
**** I give myself four stars in this area because there were areas of speech that I failed to succeed in, such as eliminating fillers when giving a speech. I feel I earned four stars because I evaluated each presenter with positive regard, and honesty. I was also able to recognize my weaknesses, and work extra hard to improve them. Though I failed in certain areas, I grew as a public speaker.
Nurtured and enriched communication potentials for personal, academic and career success
**** I feel I earned four stars because I presented my speeches clearly, and concisely, with mastery. I had fillers, but not enough to make me a horrible speaker. because of the materials I learned in speech class, I will be more professional when speaking in my academic path, and have a successful career.
Communicated in a positive, ethical, respectful, and professional manner
***** I give myself five stars in this area because I was always positive in class, and respectful to others, and their speeches. I feel I acted in a professional manner at all times, and helped others keep a positive attitude as well.
Experienced success in this course as you effectively utilized technology and other class resources we have. Give 3 to 5 words that best describe your learning Experience and success in class and explain or give reasons WHY?
~~~Good, Helpful, Interesting. I feel my experience was good because nothing happened that made me resent taking the class. I was engaged in all class lessons. It was helpful because I learned about things that I should and should not do when giving a speech. I also learned how to speak with mastery, and professionally. My time in the class was interesting because the students had fun, and creative insights to the many things discussed.
